8 minutes to Live.

Source Code starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan and Vera Farmiga and directed by Duncan Jones is an action thriller centered on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown man and discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train.

At first, I got confused on what the story was really trying to say. It kept on repeating the same events in a train over and over again, but soon after I got the message that Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) had only 8 minutes to live in the source code which was a past alternative universe. It was a venue wherein a person can relive the last 8 minutes of his life, and the mission of Colter Stevens was to try to find the bomber who attacked the commuter train and had plans to create more damage in the city. I really found the plot of the story to be very interesting because the idea of ‘source code’ was a technological and military breakthrough. People can now go back to the last 8 minutes of their lives and try to figure out what really went wrong to solve the problem. Although it was a very good invention, it also presented its drawbacks such as violating the human rights and human dignity etc. It is because the person is forced to finish the mission before his ‘real life’ is terminated. This may cause some problems with some people because others would not want their minds to be still active and letting the person suffer when the body is really no longer capable of supporting it. The idea of source code intrigues the mind whether this kind of technology is possible in the future and with its technology, how will man be able to overcome its shortcomings and use it to the benefit of the public.

This movie teaches us a lot about morality such as cherishing life to the fullest and living each day as if it were your last. It teaches us that life should be enjoyed with the people who love us the most such as our parents, friends. It is also important for us to be affectionate every chance we could be and really say what we feel inside so that we do not regret anything in the end. In the story when Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) was trying to find out what happened to him and found out that when he died, he really did not have a good conclusion to his life with his father. In life, there are many unexpected things that may happen for no reason and for this we should be thankful for each day that we get to live.

In conclusion, I really found this movie to be very nice and fascinating. It teaches people that life should not be taken for granted and to cherish it.
